Exilis is an FDA-approved technology that uses radio frequency waves to tighten skin and reduce fat. The radio waves produces heat, which in turn stimulates collagen and targets fat cells, to create smoother, firmer, more taut-looking skin. As opposed to using ultrasound or microneedling, the heat from the radio waves will cause shrinkage. Dr. Schultz says, “Exilis is a very good technique for getting good results without side effects.” With Exilis as your body-sculpting technique, you have minimized your risk for and reduced side effects.
You’ll have to work with your physician to choose the right area of treatment for you. However, most people have this procedure done on their neck and face. In addition, many women who’ve had several children and are in great shape, will get Exilis done on their mid-sections. They may not be able to get rid of the pouch around the belly button from the laxity that occurred due to multiple pregnancies. Another area people choose is their upper arms, in order to reduce some of the flaccidity and floppiness there. Sometimes, women will even get fat deposits on the inside of their knees and Exilis works well in this area as well.
The only limit in regards to how many areas can be treated at one time has to do with the amount of time you’re willing to spend at the office! Each area that’s treated will take about 25-30 minutes. Typically patients will get both sides of their body done at the same time (both upper arms or both thighs), in which case the entire treatment would last about an hour.
Some patients may see their results instantly, while others may take up to a month to see changes. In a clinical study published by Medical Insight, Inc., 79% of subjects had improvement in each of the three categories measured — fine lines/wrinkles, skin laxity, and overall skin texture. But perhaps the best benefit of having an Exilis treatment is the ability to avoid surgery in order to tighten and lift the skin, particularly in the lower face and neck. When you arrive for your Exilis treatment, there is no preparation necessary. Your appointment will take, on average, about 30-40 minutes. During the appointment, the area you’re treating will be prepared with toner, as well as any questions you have will be answered. The procedure will begin and the pad that connects the device to your body will be secured to your back for the radio wave technology to begin the treatment process. After your appointment, you’re free to go about your day normally. There will be no recovery time necessary and the results will typically occur over the next few days to a week.
