Before we treat wrinkles, it’s important to understand what causes them. Most lines and wrinkles are caused by the loss of collagen and hyaluronic acid in the dermis (the second layer of your skin). This happens because of the passage of time, sun damage, or repetitive motion. Dr. Schultz explains, “To get an idea of how wrinkles form, think of a paperclip. If you keep bending a paperclip back and forth, after a short period of time, the paperclip will break. This is the same process with your skin. Repetitive motions that cause any creasing and bending of your skin can break down your skin’s collagen and elastic fibers, thereby causing wrinkles.”

The good news is that in our office, Dr. Schultz has an amazing variety of methods at his disposal to help you get your smooth, youthful-looking, wrinkle-free skin back. Here are some of the ways you’ll be able to treat your facial lines and wrinkles:

Dr. Schultz uses a Fraxel Laser (1550) to heat the skin to generate new collagen and hyaluronic acid. The fraxel laser is non-ablative, which means it does not disrupt, break, or destroy the overlying epidermis when it delivers the collagen-building energy to the dermis. There is very little downtime from this process.

These lasers are a bit more aggressive than Fraxel Lasers. They’re also more effective, but you’ll have more downtime after the treatment. Profractional Lasers painlessly drill tiny pinpoint holes in the skin and, with a computer generated pattern, treat the skin with the laser energy to improve lines, wrinkles, and scars by causing the skin to make new collagen and hyaluronic acid. These lasers are incredibly effective at fine to medium lines and wrinkles, and they’re very good for treating acne scars and other atrophic scarring.

Botox is a non-surgical, injectable treatment that has been proven safe and effective in softening, reducing and eliminating fine lines and wrinkles that seem etched into your skin. It works by relaxing the muscles in your face that cause wrinkles when they contract.

The process of the aging face is in part caused by a loss of volume. This loss of volume is caused by loss of fat, bone, collagen and hyaluronic acid. That’s what contributes to the hollowing, sinking, sagging, wrinkles, jowls, and so on. Fillers restore the volume to those areas and give you instant gratification because by the end of the appointment, you’ll see and walk out the door with stunning results.

A chemical peel helps to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face, neck, décolletage, and hands. It does this by exfoliating off the top layer of skin, revealing smoother, fresher skin underneath. Additionally, when done regularly, chemical peels can help build back collagen to further improve the appearance of fine lines. Dr. Schultz suggests glycolic peels to help remove damaged skin cells on the upper layer of your skin and has developed a proprietary Glycolic “No Downtime” Peel. He’s created such an amazingly effective glycolic peel that he is often referred to as, “The Father of Glycolic”!

Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells. It exfoliates by using a spray of microcrystals, which then stimulates the production of the underlying dermal skin cells to create collagen, giving your skin a smoother, less wrinkled appearance.

Microneedling is another way of stimulating collagen and hyaluronic acid production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. In microneedling, very fine, very short needles are applied to the skin to make very, very small and shallow openings, which are barely visible. After that’s done, different products can be applied to be better absorbed into the skin such as platelet rich plasma (PRP), peptides, and even Vitamin C, all of which stimulate the production of collagen.

There are many reasons to see Dr. Schultz to treat your facial lines and wrinkles. Not only does he have an extensive variety of lasers, tools, and other technology to help fix lines and wrinkles, but he has more experience than most. Dr. Schultz says, “I had one of the first lasers that was used in the early 90s called the CO2 laser.” His extensive experience in ablative laser resurfacing goes back 25 years! Our office also has sought-after results from Botox and Fillers. The experience and varied methodologies at Dr. Schultz’s office means that you know you’re getting the best possible results for your particular wrinkle concerns. Your treatment will never be “one size fits all”. It will always be customized for you.

For Laser Treatments: For Fraxel, you will start by having a numbing agent applied for about an hour and you’ll be given medicine. The laser blows very cold air and the procedure takes about 20 minutes. There’s very little downtime from this treatment and consists of one to two days of medium sunburn and some flaking on the third, fourth, and fifth day. But none of this will prevent you from pursuing your usual activities. For Profractional Lasers, your appointment will last 10 to 60 minutes depending on the area you’d like to treat. You’ll recuperate with compresses of milk and water plus the topical application of Aquaphor. Most people take five to six days before they’re ready to apply makeup. For Botox: When you come in for Botox, there is no preparation necessary. If possible, try to avoid ibuprofen, aspirin, or other types of blood thinners for several days leading up to your appointment as those items may increase your chance of small bruises. Your appointment can last anywhere between ten to twenty minutes. At the start of your appointment, we will discuss the results you’re looking for and choose the best areas to treat in order to get your desired results. We’ll treat those areas and then after your appointment, you’re free to go about your day normally, but you must keep your head up for two hours. You can even apply makeup before you leave. Within ten days of your treatment, you’ll see your results from Botox, but will experience most of the results in four to seven days. Your results will last about three months, at which point, you’ll come back in to maintain the results that keep your skin looking young! For Fillers: When you come in for fillers, there is no preparation necessary. Your appointment will take, on average, about 30-60 minutes. During the appointment, the area you’re treating will be cleaned and any questions you have will be answered. The procedure involves treatments into the areas you’d like to improve. After your appointment, you’re free to go about your day normally, you can even apply makeup when you leave if desired — just being careful to not massage or apply pressure to the treatment area for a few hours following the appointment. For Fillers, the results are immediate and the typical duration of effect last for approximately six months. For Chemical Peels: There is no need to prepare for your Glycolic “No Downtime” Peel appointment. When you come in, you’ll discuss with our team what areas (face, hands, chest, décolletage, etc.) you’d like to treat and we’ll cleanse those areas for you. Your glycolic treatment will be applied and left on or two minutes. You may feel a tiny tingle during the treatment itself, but that will fade during the two minutes, or when you wash the treatment off. After rinsing off the treatment, you will apply a moisturizing sunscreen. You can go about your day as usual, apply makeup if you’d like, or show off your fresh, new glow to the world without it. For Microdermabrasion: You will not need to prepare anything for your microdermabrasion appointment. When you come in for your procedure, your nurse will direct the tiny spray of aluminum oxide crystals through a device placed against your skin. The treatment is not painful, but you will feel a slight warming sensation as your face is exfoliated. After treatment, you will apply a moisturizing sunscreen. For Microneedling: Before coming in for your appointment, avoid self-tanning lotions or sprays for about two days before your procedure. The day before your procedure, you should avoid sun exposure and stop using any products that have vitamin A or retinol in them. During your appointment, a numbing cream will be administered and the microneedling will begin. After you appointment, avoid sun exposure and exercise that would cause heavy sweating for about 72 hours. You may have slight redness akin to a mild sunburn, but that will go away shortly.

Patient Reviews

I've been seeing Dr. Schultz for the last 8 years and during that time, I've recommended him to countless friends for both cosmetic and medical dermatologic help. I trust him completely both diagnostically and aesthetically. When I had shingles, he was wonderful, incredibly supportive and kind. And when I eased into doing more cosmetic dermatology, he was– and continues to be– patient, careful and cautious. He listens to concerns and really hears what your goal outcome is and works with you to make it happen. I wanted to maintain a natural look while keeping my skin looking fresh and that's just what he's done for me. I always leave his office feeling prettier and well-cared for! If you have a medical concern or something about your skin you want to upgrade, you can't do better than Dr. Schultz and his wonderful team. And the products are amazing as well!

Dr. Schultz is the most thorough and good natured dermatologist I have ever seen. I have been a patient of his for more than 20 years. He has taught me everything I know about the value of taking care of my skin, a gift that keeps on giving. He also takes the time to listen to me, to see me as an individual and doesn't treat my needs as a one size fits all doctor. I really appreciate his kindness, patience and expertise. I absolutely love his product line and have definitely reaped the rewards from using it, especially his glycolic peel pads and moisturizer, which I can't live without. My skin feels softer, smoother, appears more translucent and actually looks younger! He helped me to see beyond the lines and wrinkles, although he so good at helping to keep those at bay while maintaining a very natural appearance. His staff is outstanding. They make you feel welcome, like family, from the moment you walk through the door. Angela, Monika, Deborah and all of the support staff are extraordinary at what they do. Thank you Dr. Schultz and everyone at Park Ave Skincare. You're the best!

Dr. Schultz has truly transformed my skin, so much so that I can confidently leave the house without wearing makeup now. During my first meeting with him, he intently listened to my skin concerns, we discussed what my goals were, and he explained pragmatically what treatments and products he recommended for me. I truly appreciate his fantastic bedside manner and conservative approach. I am a perfectionist in every aspect of my life, including my skin, and he understood this and was committed to helping me achieve every skin goal I had. The entire staff is just so fantastic and friendly, from reception to the PAs. They make you feel welcome and extremely comfortable, which to me is very important when visiting any doctor’s office. As someone who works too much and never gets enough sleep, my skin was looking very dull and lifeless. My skin is now full of life again and has an incredible glow to it which I have never had before. And I owe it all to the incredible Dr. Schultz.

My partnership with Dr Schultz began more than 30 years ago. As a generous friend, advisor, skilled surgeon, and superb cosmetic diagnostician, he has enabled me to look my best. He has kept me abreast of the most sophisticated procedures and in so doing, has maximized my appearance, always guided by what will be most beneficial for me. He is someone I go to for advice and care and his staff is another manifestation of this care. I don’t know many patients who can say this, and I feel fortunate to be among them.

In the four years that I've been a patient of Dr. Schultz, my acne-prone skin has gone from constant breakouts to smooth and clear. These days, I feel confident and comfortable enough in my skin to wear minimal makeup, if any—which I never would have done in years past. He and his warm, friendly staff always go above and beyond; he takes the time to listen, talk with me, and create the best plan for my skin. It's clear he has my best interests in mind, and I trust him wholeheartedly. I would highly recommend him to friends, family, and frankly, anyone who asks.

Each session with Dr. Schultz is a mini education in skin care. He approaches each patient as a unique individual with different needs. I’m Asian and he’s explained to me how that impacts treatment in a clear manner that a layperson can understand. At each examination, he recites detailed notes to his staff which he then refers back to at each future appointment, adjusting and tweaking treatment plans when necessary. Over the past two years I’ve seen a remarkable improvement in my blemishes and overall complexion and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking to enhance their appearance.

I have been a patient of Dr. Schultz for many years, and I continue to be amazed at his medical approach, patience, and professionalism. He takes the time to listen to my health concerns, explains how and why he would like to issue a treatment in a way that I understand , answers all of my questions, and all of his procedures and painless and thorough. He is very attentive, results-oriented, and extremely knowledgeable. He follows up and is committed to my health and satisfaction. The Park Avenue Skincare is a calm environment and the staff are all very friendly, warm, and respectful. It's easy to get appointments at a time that works for me and they are always on time and considerate. I think so highly of him and his practice that I sent my mom to him, and continue to go to his office even though my life is based in midtown west! I have great confidence in the care that he gives.
